'Anthrax Street' Renamed
Thursday, October 25, 2001
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. One North Carolina community may be replacing Anthrax with Justice.
Six out of seven households on Anthrax Street in Fayetteville have signed a petition to change their street name. Residents want to get rid of any association to the killer disease being spread through the mail.
Property owners will now vote on a new name from a list of five: Justice, Remembrance, Allegiance, Memorial and American. Names like Liberty and Freedom were already taken.
One Anthrax Street resident says it'll be a hassle to change the address. But he's the only one objecting to the name change.
Cumberland County commissioners are expected to approve the new name.
