Man, 72, Survives More Than 1,000 Bee Stings

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

FORT WORTH, Texas —  A Graham man who suffered hundreds of bee stings has been upgraded to fair condition Tuesday at a Fort Worth hospital.

Young County authorities say 72-year-old old James Milton Dunsworth was in critical condition after the attack.

Sheriff Brian Walls says medical crews initially estimated Dunsworth had more than 1,000 stings, but hospital officials declined to release specifics.

Dunsworth was operating a bulldozer in the Dark Canyon area south of Graham when the swarm attacked Monday.

He was transported by medical helicopter to John Peterson Hospital in Fort Worth.

The bees will be tested to see if they're the aggressive so-called Africanized killer bees.
