Connecticut Cops: Girl Walking Pony to School Breached Peace

Saturday, June 07, 2008

WESTPORT, Conn. —  Cocoa the pony may have been quiet, but police in Connecticut say a high school student and her father were breaching the peace.

Sarah Friedson walked her chocolate-colored pony to Westport's Staples High School to celebrate the last day of classes Friday. Her father, Ronald, drove behind them with his blinkers flashing.

The school called police, citing safety concerns and saying the Friedsons ignored warnings not to bring the animal. Ronald Friedson says the pony is docile and not dangerous.

Sarah Friedson, who said she will be attending summer school to earn enough credits to graduate in August, said school officials told her she would likely be suspended for 10 days.

"I really didn't think it was going to blow out of proportion like this," she said. "It's not like I brought him into the school, I didn't."

Breaching the peace is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

A message left late Friday for school Superintendent Elliott Landon was not immediately returned.
