Mother-Daughter Team Reaches Summit of Mount Everest

Saturday, May 24, 2008

Two Australian women have reached the summit of Mount Everest, creating history as the first mother-daughter team to climb the world's tallest mountain.

Cheryl Bart and daughter Nikki, 23, reached the peak Saturday after setting out on April 1.

A team spokesman said they were now the first mother and daughter team to have climbed the tallest peak in each of the seven continents.

The pair have encountered obstacles such as the ascent of the Beijing Olympic torch and having their communications gear temporarily confiscated amid the tight security.
