Police Investigate Murder of Northeastern University Student Found Shot to Death in Boston Apartment

Thursday, May 22, 2008

BOSTON —  Boston police are investigating the shooting death of a 22-year-old Northeastern University student in her off-campus apartment.

The body of the young woman was found Tuesday in her apartment in the Mission Hill neighborhood.

Police had not released the woman's identity, but Nicholas Payne of New Milford, Conn., told The Boston Globe in a telephone interview that he was informed by authorities that the victim was his daughter, Rebecca Payne.

Boston police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said investigators were trying to determine if the shooting was random or if the victim knew her attacker.

Northeastern University said in a statement that it was aware of the investigation and that a number of other students lived in the off-campus building.
