Virginia Mother Takes Loaded Guns to Elementary School Conference

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

ROUND HILL, Va. —  Authorities in Loudoun County say a mother had three loaded pistols in her purse during a meeting with an administrator at Round Hill Elementary School.

Sheriff's office spokesman Kraig Troxell says the 45-year-old woman has not been charged with a crime but has been committed to a hospital psychiatric unit.

Authorities say the woman did not remove the weapons from her purse and did not threaten anyone.

School system spokesman Wayde Byard says the woman was behaving irrationally during a conference Tuesday morning. An administrator sensed something was wrong and other staffers called the sheriff's office.

Byard says the woman acknowledged to deputies that she had guns in her purse.
