Jordan's Military Court Convicts Three Men for Plotting to Assassinate President Bush

AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan's military court has convicted three men for plotting to assassinate U.S. President George W. Bush during a 2006 visit to the kingdom and sentenced them to 15 years in jail.
Wednesday's verdict comes about a year and a half after the young Jordanian men — Nidhal Musleh al-Momani, Sattam al-Zawahrah and Tharwat Daraj — were arrested on Nov. 28, 2006, the day before Bush's arrival in the Jordanian capital Amman.
The prosecution says the three alleged Islamic militants were found with large plastic bottles filled with gasoline meant to be used for bombs.
The prosecutor says the three were planning to attack the American and Danish embassies in Amman. The three were apparently unaware Denmark has no embassy in Jordan.
