Michigan Man Tries to Grab Deputy's Gun After His Murder Conviction

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

BATTLE CREEK, Mich.  —  A man punched a sheriff's deputy and tried to grab the officer's handgun from its holster after a judge in Battle Creek convicted him of murder in the killings of his wife and son.

Deputy Scott Eby pushed 43-year-old Michael Fisher against a wall Monday as others rushed to help. Fisher was subdued with an electric shock from a Taser. A Battle Creek Enquirer photo shows Fisher's hand on the gun.

Fisher's defense lawyers declined to comment.

Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge Allen Garbrecht had just found him guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and other charges in the Dec. 28, 2006, shooting death of 38-year-old Candy Fisher and 12-year-old Michael Fisher II.

Sentencing is June 19, and he was expected to be charged in the attack.
