Four drinks a day for men and just two a day for women raises the risk of certain types of cancer, a new study from Australia has found.

Just two drinks a day for both sexes raises the risk of mouth cancer by 75 percent, according to the study from Australia's Cancer Institute NSW.

Men who have four alcoholic drinks each day raise their risk of developing bowel cancer by 64 percent, the study found. For women, two drinks per day raises the risk of breast cancer by 22 percent, the Australian Associated Press reports.

The study, Alcohol As A Cause Of Cancer, also found 12 percent of all breast cancer cases in could be directly linked to excessive consumption of alcohol, AAP reports.

An NSW official said the new study concludes that excessive alcohol consumption should be considered a "direct link" to cancer.
