WASHINGTON —  The House has sworn-in its second new member in as many days — Louisiana Republican Rep. Steve Scalise.

Voters sent him to Washington, D.C., in a special election over the weekend. He succeeds former Republican Rep. Bobby Jindal, who is now the state's governor.

On Tuesday, the House swore-in Democratic Rep. Don Cazayoux, who was also elected in Louisiana on Saturday.

Republicans were expected to hold Scalise's seat, but Democrats made a rare foray into historically-Republican turf with their victory in the Cazayoux seat.

Total House membership is now at 434 out of 435 available seats. Mississippi will hold a special election later this month to succeed Roger Wicker, who replaced Trent Lott in the U.S. Senate.

The House is currently composed of 235 Democrats and 199 Republicans.
