Taliban Reportedly Warn Pakistani Followers to Grow Beards, Or Else

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

No beard? Taliban operating in northwest Pakistan say their followers have two months to grow one or face harsh punishment, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Maulvi Faqir, central deputy of the umbrella militant group Tehrik-e-Taliban, reportedly also warned tribal Pakistanis that they should be careful not to shave their beards because it was a violation of Shariah Law.

The orders prompted local barbers to place signs in their shop windows, asking customers not to force them to shave beards.
