A 3-year-old girl from England has a rare condition that confines her to darkness most days, according to an online report from the News & Star.

Alice Tyson of Moorhouse, England, suffers from xeroderma pigmentosum, a rare condition that means exposure to sunlight, even for short periods, will permanently damage her skin, causing severe burns, blistering and premature aging, as well as increases her chances of getting skin cancer.

The condition means she cannot go outside without being completely covered up including wearing a mask over her face, the Web site reported.

Her parents, Neil and Tracey, are trying to raise money to build a special playroom and outdoor tunnel with lights so that Alice is no longer confined to the darkness of their sitting room, BBC reported.
