• Catholic Church established in the U.S. on November 6, 1789 by Pope Pius VI.
• First Catholic diocese: Baltimore, MD in 1789; John Carroll named first bishop.
• There are 195 archdioceses and dioceses in the U.S.
• 17% of the world’s population is Catholic (approximately 1.1 billion).
• 6% of the world’s Catholics are from the U.S. (approximately 67 million).
• 11% of the world’s Catholic priests are from the U.S.
• Catholics comprise the largest religious faith group in the U.S. Congress.
