The following information highlights the amount of hurricanes that have hit U.S. locations between 1851 and 2006.
Hurricane Strikes on the Mainland U.S. (1851-2006)
Total U.S. Hurricanes: 279
Total Major U.S. Hurricanes: 96
Data indicates that an average of two major hurricanes every three years made landfall somewhere along the U.S. Gulf or Atlantic coast. (All categories combined average about five hurricanes every three years.)
