Even if the economy has gone south, Americans are still spending money on cosmetic procedures, according to a report issued last week by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

There are, however, a number of procedures that Americans should be wary of, according to ABC News, which listed the following:

• Lipodissolve — A shot intended to rid fat deposits, it is often part of ‘mesotherapy,’ which is an injection of a cocktail of substances.

• Cosmetic Foot Surgery — This involves everything from filler injections to actually reshaping the foot, but doctors say it’s unsafe. “Complications can include infection, nerve injury, prolonged swelling of the toe, and even chronic pain with walking,” said Dr. Glen B. Pfeffer, president of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.

• Permanent Filler Injections — Special gels that are injected into the skin are tantalizing to some hoping for plumper lips or fewer wrinkles, but complications can range from irreversible binding with tissues to a distorted appearance, said medical experts.

• Breast Augmentation Injections — It’s a new idea that offers an alternative to surgery: Get a shot that will pump the breast full of "fat." But the reinjected fat can calcify and create a scarred mass deep within the tissues.
