NEW YORK —  Disney's Touchstone Pictures yesterday indefinitely put off its planned Christmas release of Bad Company, a comedy in which New York City is threatened with nuclear holocaust by terrorists.

"Due to the national tragedy that occurred, Touchstone Pictures has postponed the release date of its action comedy," Disney said in a terse one-sentence statement. 

A spokeswoman declined to discuss the plot of the film, which stars Anthony Hopkins as a CIA agent who recruits a bookie played by Chris Rock to impersonate his murdered twin brother — "to negotiate a sensitive nuclear weapons deal with terrorists," according to an official synopsis. 

Columnist Jeffrey Wells of Reel.com reported yesterday that a draft script of the $90 million Jerry Bruckheimer production contained a scene in which a terrorist named Omid tells Rock's character that he will use a nuclear device to "turn Wall Street into a piece of charcoal." 

Last week, Touchstone postponed tomorrow's scheduled opening of Big Trouble, a comedy about a bomb on a plane starring Tim Allen. 

Also put off indefinitely in the wake of last Tuesday's attack was Warner Bros.' Collateral Damage with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Originally set for an Oct. 5 release, the film revolves around a terrorist attack on a Los Angeles office building.
