Housekeeping Supervisor Saves Newborn From New York Hotel Toilet

Monday, April 07, 2008

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. —  A housekeeping supervisor is credited with saving the life of a newborn whose mother had just given birth in a toilet at a western New York hotel.

Cathy Masic says a hotel housekeeper gave birth Saturday morning in the bathroom in a guest room at the Quality Hotel and Suites in Niagara Falls.

Masic tells The Buffalo News that the newborn boy wasn't breathing when she pulled him from the toilet. She says she wrapped the baby in linens and phoned for help.

An emergency dispatcher told her how to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before paramedics arrived.

The baby was taken to a Buffalo hospital.

A statement from the hotel says the mother and child are doing well.

No charges have been filed against the mother but police say they are investigating.
