Tennessee Under Flooding Warning After Overnight Storms Dump Inches of Rain

Friday, April 04, 2008

DYERSBURG, Tenn. —  Forecasters say flooding was a possibility for much of Tennessee after overnight storms dumped up to four inches of rain in some areas.

The National Weather Service reports heavy rain from a line of thunderstorms moving from eastern Arkansas hit parts of West and Middle Tennessee overnight, though the rain was expected to taper off by Friday afternoon.

Forecasters say the ground is already saturated from recent rainfall and flooding is possible, especially along rivers and other waterways.

The storms also spawned a tornado, which hit parts of Little Rock, Ark., and its suburbs Thursday, injuring an unknown number of people while damaging businesses and downing trees and power lines.
