OKLAHOMA CITY —  Health officials say two Texas women who received the kidneys of a man contracted tuberculosis as a result, and one of them died.

The 46-year-old organ donor hadn't been diagnosed with the disease and tested negative for tuberculosis six months before he died in June.

A report issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the case noted the man did have risk factors for the disease, including a history of alcoholism, incarceration and homelessness.

Three weeks after the donor died, the Oklahoma Department of Health learned he had the disease.

According to the report, a 50-year-old woman who received one kidney died nine weeks after the transplant. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old woman who received the other kidney has responded well to treatment for TB.

A 59-year-old Texas man who received the donor's liver hasn't contracted the illness.

The identities of the donor and the recipients weren't included in the CDC report.

Earlier this week, it was reported that two died and two were sickened after receiving organs from a Long Island teen who died from a rare cancer.
