Greenspan, O'Neill to Testify on Financial System

Friday, September 14, 2001

WASHINGTON  —  Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Harvey Pitt will testify next week on the health of the U.S. financial system, a Capitol Hill spokesman said Friday.

The hearing before the Senate Banking Committee will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m., panel spokesman Jesse Jacobs said.

So far, Greenspan has been silent on the state of the U.S. financial system since terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon threw U.S. markets into disarray.

The U.S. stock markets are expected to resume trading on Monday after Tuesday's attack shut them down. A test run is scheduled for Saturday.
