KNOXVILLE, Tenn. —  A man who police say robbed at least six Knoxville-area banks with duct tape on his fingers has pleaded guilty to federal bank robbery charges.

Court records show 25-year-old Travis Wayne Carver pleaded guilty Thursday to bank robbery, armed bank robbery, use of a gun during a violent crime and lying to buy a gun.

Authorities dubbed Carver the "Black Tape Bandit" after they say he robbed a string of banks with black electrical tape on his fingertips in an effort to conceal his fingerprints.

Carver turned himself in to police on an outstanding misdemeanor theft warrant. Jailers recognized him from publicized bank surveillance photos and alerted the FBI, which arrested Carver at his apartment on the federal bank robbery charges.

Court records show most of his robberies netted $1,000 to $2,000. Carver is scheduled to be sentenced July 31.
