Principal Allegedly Threatens to Kill Science Teachers

Thursday, March 27, 2008

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas —  A Texas teacher has filed a police complaint alleging a principal threatened to kill some science teachers if students did poorly on standardized tests.

The New Braunfels administrator allegedly made the threat — if the students didn't improve their standardized state test scores.

Anita White taught at New Braunfels Middle School for 18 years before being transferred this month to the district's Learning Center.

Principal John Burks made the threat in a Jan. 21 meeting with eighth grade teachers, according to White.

Burks, through a school district spokeswoman, denied the allegation.

New Braunfels Police spokesman Mike Penshorn said the incident was filed as a verbal assault, but is being investigated as a terroristic threat.

School District spokeswoman Stephanie Ferguson said after she learned of the allegation from reporters, she spoke to Burks and he told her it didn't happen.
