BOYD, Texas —  Two sisters in Texas are suffering from a rare ailment and are in need of new hearts, their parents told MyFox Dallas.

Emily Smith, 6, and Shayde Smith, 8, have been diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy, a progressive disease that enlarges and hardens the heart, according to the report. The disease ultimately leads to failure.

Mother Natalie Van Noy said the girls are days away from being added to a transplant list. In some cases, an artificial pacemaker or a device called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) may be surgically placed in the chest to relieve certain symptoms of the disease, according to WebMD.

Van Noy and the girls' father, Matt Smith, said they are confident the girls will be fine once they receive their transplants.
