Police Don't Want to Return Guns to Husband of Missing Illinois Mom Lisa Stebic

Wednesday, March 05, 2008

PLAINFIELD, Ill. —  Plainfield police contend their efforts to find a missing woman would be hurt if they are forced to return guns and vehicles seized from her husband.

A hearing is scheduled for April 2 on a motion by Craig Stebic seeking the return of his car and truck, along with about two dozen firearms that have been held by police since last year.

Attorney George Lenard says police has held the items for more than nine months, and it's time for Stebic to get his property back.

Stebic has been named a "person of interest" in the disappearance of his 37-year-old wife, Lisa. Police say they believe the mother of two is a victim of foul play.

Plainfield Police Chief Donald Bennett says because Lisa Stebic is still missing it is not in the best interest of the case to return the seized items.
