The human papillmovirus vaccination Gardasil could become available for young men as soon as next year, according to a report from The New York Times.

If boys could be vaccinated, the spread of the virus would slow considerably, according to public health officials. HPV is the No. 1 cause of cervical cancer in women. But health officials say HPV isn't just a female problem since women most often get the virus from men, according to the report.

Merck, maker of Gardasil, plans to submit data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration later this year seeking approval to give vaccine to boys, it is reported.

Currently, the vaccine is only available for females between the ages of 9 and 26.
