Striking Writers Say They Won't Picket Grammy Awards

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

LOS ANGELES —  The striking writers guild says it will not picket the Grammys.

However, the Writers Guild of America has not yet granted the Grammys a waiver that would allow striking writers to work on the ceremony Feburary 10th in Los Angeles.

The guild had said previously it was unlikely to grant the Recording Academy a waiver. The guild had refused to grant a waiver for the Golden Globes, which resulted in that awards ceremony being reduced to a one-hour show with no celebrities.

Recording Academy President Neil Portnow says a full-scale Grammys will continue no matter what. Beyonce' and the Foo Fighters have already announced they will perform at the Grammys.
