LAS VEGAS —  It might have the same name as another famous championship, but this is a whole different (read: drunken) ballgame.

The World Series of Beer Pong will be held at a casino in Las Vegas, with nearly 300 teams from across the country and Canada competing. Participants are vying for $50,000 in prize money.

Just don't ask them to recite the alphabet backwards when it's all over.

The game has come a long way from its wobbly roots in beer-soaked fraternity house basements, but the rules haven't wavered much.

Players try to throw ping pong balls across a table into their opponents' cups of beer. If they're successful, the other team must drink what's in the cups; if not, they have to drink. The winning team is the first to take all of the opposing team's cups off the table.
