Report: British Police Arrest Amy Winehouse

Tuesday, December 18, 2007

LONDON —  Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has been arrested in connection with an investigation into perverting the course of justice.

Sky's crime correspondent Martin Brunt said the "Back to Black" star was arrested "by appointment" at a police station in east London.

"It is not an unexpected move," Brunt said.

"Her husband has been charged with grievous bodily harm against a pub landlord. He was then further charged with perverting the course of justice.

"It had been speculated that police might have an interest in any allegation about his wife's potential involvement."

Last month, Winehouse abandoned her UK tour and cancelled all public appearances for the rest of the year because of fears over her health.

The 24-year-old was ordered to rest by her doctors and said she could no longer perform without her husband.

Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, is in custody over the GBH charges.

Winehouse said at the time: "My husband is everything to me and without him it's just not the same."

The singer's mother wrote an open letter to her earlier this month calling on her to "take stock" of her life.

"Early fame has overwhelmed you, it's dizzied you and muddled your mind," Janis Winehouse wrote.

"For a moment, forget you're a superstar. You're young and vulnerable, no stronger than any of the rest of us."
