Pong Pioneer: Modern Video Games 'Pure, Unadulterated Trash'

The man who brought the world "Pong" and the Atari 2600 doesn't think much of today's video games.
"Video games today are a race to the bottom," Atari founder Nolan Bushnell tells Electronic Design magazine. "They are pure, unadulterated trash and I'm sad for that."
Bushnell, who developed "Pong," the first successful arcade game, in 1974, laments the fact that today's violent, testosterone-heavy games aren't more family-friendly.

"We used to have families sit down and play a game together," he says. "A lot of video games today are very isolated. You don't see mom and dad, sister and brother, sitting down like they used to play, say, Monopoly."
Bushnell had a huge hit with the Atari 2600 home video-game console in the late 1970s, and made another sort of cultural impact in the 1990s with the Chuck E. Cheese chain of restaurants.
