The blaze at the St. Alphonsus Liguori Rock Church began around 7:30 in the evening while a choir was practicing inside. Choir members said that they heard the lightning strike, but didn’t realize until later that it had sparked a fire.

The church was founded in 1866, and was scheduled to celebrate its 140 year anniversary next month.
