Tehran was set to launch a 24-hour news channel in response to Western giants’ “stranglehold” on the market, feeding to the masses a steady stream of headlines on Iran’s nuclear program amid high tensions, the Fars News Agency reports.

"Press TV," which will include journalists from foreign countries including Britain, was expected to offer documentaries, news bulletins at 30-minute intervals and talk shows when it launches on July 2.

The channel’s first order of business? "To break the global media stranglehold of Western outlets," according to a list on its Web site.

"Iran and the Shiites in particular have become a focal point of world propaganda. From the media point of view, we are trying to give a second eye to Western audiences," said Mohammad Sarafraz, head of international services of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
