Illinois Murder Has Link to ‘Law & Order’ Episode

Friday, June 22, 2007

Police in Illinois say the deadly shooting of an Oswego family in their SUV last week is eerily similar to an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Illinois State Police searched the Vaughn family home Thursday, taking cable boxes, modems and additional computer-related attachments, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Police told the Tribune that the search was mostly to determine whether or not someone in the family had seen the episode of the hit show, which aired on May 8. In it, the wife and children of a man leading a double life were gunned down, while the man survived. He blamed his wife for the crime, but later found himself charged.

That set-up is comparable to the situation of 32-year-old Chris Vaughn, who flagged down a passerby in Channahon Township and asked him to call 911. Police then found the bodies of his wife, Kimberly Vaughn, and the couple's children—Abigayle, 12, Cassandra, 11, and Blake, 8—in the family's SUV. Each of the children was shot multiple times, and Kimberly was shot once in the head.

Chris was found injured, but not mortally.
