Man Shoots and Kills Teenage Neighbor for Walking Across His Perfectly Manicured Yard

Thursday, May 24, 2007

Can you believe that roughly 60% of high-earning individuals work 50 hours/week, and 35% of them work 60-hour workweeks! Looks like some American workers are saying “so long” to the traditional nine-to-five workday. Today I’m talking with Sylvia Ann Hewlett, president of a non-profit called Work Life Policy, about a new breed of “extreme” workers. She’ll tell you how workers can healthfully balance their professional and personal lives in a culture of Blackberries and e-mails. If you think you or someone you love may be working to the point of obsession, take a look at www.workaholics-anonymous.org for support and helpful resources.

A man in Ohio suffers from a different type of destructive compulsion. When a teenage neighbor walked across his perfectly manicured lawn, the man was furious…so furious that he shot and killed the boy! Neighbors of 66-year-old Charles Martin say that he was consumed by a bizarre need to keep his lawn in perfect shape.

Do you have your eye on a pricey piece of land, but don’t have the money to buy it? You may want to take a cue from London’s Harry Hallowes, a man who squatted in a shack rent-free for so long that he was actually awarded the property under British law. Eighteen years of squatting earned Hallowes the plot worth four million American dollars for free! A developer that recently bought the property agreed to let Hallowes stay put. The grateful 71-year-old says, “I just want to carry on as I am. I’ll be very lucky if I live here for the rest of my life.”

Have you come up with an effective and innovative punishment for your misbehaving rascals? I’d love to hear your story! Email me at E.D.Hill@FoxNews.com.
