PHILADELPHIA —  Terror suspect Sedar Tatar, charged with attempting to kill military personnel at Fort Dix in New Jersey, applied to become a police officer in Philadelphia just weeks before he was arrested, reports FOX affiliate WTXF.

The FBI has learned that the 23-year-old Tatar's application was processed April 10 -- the same day a job fair was being held at police headquarters, WTXF reported. Even though he is a legal resident, his application was put on hold because he is not a U.S. citizen and is also not eligible to become a city cop.

Tatar also bragged that he wanted to join the Army to kill U.S. soldiers, informants have told federal authorities.

Sources told the affiliate that this is not the first time Tatar had applied to become a cop. He also attempted to in Oakland, Calif.

Tetar was one of six men arrested May 7 in connection with the Fort Dix terror plot. The other five men —Ibrahim Shnewer, 22; Agron Abdullahu, 24; Dritan "Anthony" or "Tony" Duka, 28; Shain Duka, 26; and Eljvir "Elvis" Duka, 23 — are charged with conspiring to kill military personnel. They have all been denied bail.

All of the suspects except Abdullahu face life in prison if convicted; Abdullahu is charged only with helping illegal immigrants obtain weapons, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
