LOUISVILLE, Ky. —  Queen Elizabeth II was keeping a low profile Sunday, a day after attending her first Kentucky Derby.

The British monarch and her husband, Prince Philip, spent the night in central Kentucky at a location her handlers declined to reveal. On past visits, the queen has stayed at Lane's End Farm, owned by former British ambassador Will Farish.

There were no public appearances scheduled for Sunday prior to the couple's departure for Washington, D.C., a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said.

The family is expected to arrive at Andrews Air Force Base sometime Sunday evening. She arrived in Kentucky on a British Airways 777 jet Friday afternoon at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington.

Even a trip to church was not expected this time.

During a visit to Kentucky in 1986, the queen attended morning prayer at St. John's Episcopal Church in Versailles. The church invited her again for Sunday's service, but Buckingham Palace declined the invitation in writing, said Kathy Sparrow, administrative secretary for the church.

On Monday, the royal couple will meet President George W. Bush and attend an official state dinner at the White House. They are expected to leave for London on Tuesday after planting a tree at the British embassy.

The queen began her six-day trip to the United States in Virginia, where she addressed the General Assembly and visited the Jamestown Settlement before traveling to Kentucky.
