Houston Museum Offering Public 25 Cents Per Live Cockroach

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

HOUSTON —  Got a cockroach? Get a quarter.

A Houston museum is paying cash for live cockroaches as it seeks to populate a new exhibit.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is offering the public 25 cents per bug as it tries to secure 1,000 live cockroaches for an updated insect display.

Cockroaches are as clean as the area where they live, and catching them is a great activity for kids, the curator of the exhibit said.

People wanting to make some money off the usually unwanted creatures can do so starting next Tuesday.

After the museum has purchased 1,000 cockroaches, anyone else offering the insects will get a pass to the Brown Hall of Entomology, which opens May 25.
