Monday, April 30, 2007

A former "American Idol" contestant was arrested Sunday on drug and assault charges after an incident at a Tampa cafe.

Jessica Sierra, who was a finalist in the fourth season of the TV show, was arrested by Tampa police at 2:15 a.m. for allegedly hitting a man on the head with a heavy glass.

Sierra, 21, faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was also charged with the introduction of contraband into a detention facility and possession of cocaine after officers found a small amount of the drug while searching her, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.

She was released on $11,500 bond.

The victim suffered a cut over his eye, but the spokeswoman gave no further information.

Her remake of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was included as a single on the "American Idol Season 4" album.

The Associated Press contributed to this report. "American Idol" airs on FOX, which is owned by News Corporation, the parent company of FOXNews.com.
