The following are a few facts about tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection.

TB symptoms include a bad cough that lasts three weeks or longer, weight loss and coughing up blood.

TB is spread through the air.

If not treated properly, TB can be deadly.

TB rates in the United States reached an all-time low in 2006.

In 2006, 13,767 TB cases were reported in the United States.

In 2006, the United States had 49 cases of extensively drug-resistant TB.

Of those with TB who got HIV tests, 12.4 percent were HIV-positive.
