Thursday, February 01, 2007

LANCASTER, Calif.  —  A shivering Chihuahua was rescued from a Lancaster freezer by deputies who arrested five people burglarizing an Antelope Valley home, invesitgators said.

20-year-old Devon Irvin and four Palmdale teenagers were arrested and booked for investigation of residential burglary and animal cruelty after deputies responding to a burglary-in-progress call swarmed the East K-3 neighborhood.

Nothing was taken. Investigators say the suspects were still inside loading up electronics and other items when deputies in a dozen squad cars arrived yesterday.

The Chihuahua was found while deputies were inventorying the home's contents.

It was clear the dog had been in the large freezer for some time. It was shivering.
