GASTONIA, N.C.  —  Sensitivity training has been ordered for a high school soccer team that broadcast part of a Nazi speech over the public address system before a game.

The North Carolina High School Association on Wednesday also placed the boy's soccer team at Forestview High School on probation for a year. An assistant coach and a player were suspended for one game.

"We did a thorough investigation over a three-day period," Gaston County Schools Superintendent Reeves McGlohon said. "I think this is appropriate."

The aired segment was taken from a speech by Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels and contained the team's slogan, "On to victory." The speech was played about an hour before Forestview played a playoff game Saturday against Charlotte Catholic.

Forestview officials, who initially thought the speech was by Adolf Hitler, said two soccer players had downloaded the speech from the Internet. No adult heard the speech before it was aired.

The high school is in Gastonia, just west of Charlotte.

The school will be fined, probably less than $500, said Rick Struck, the state High School Association's associate director. Soccer players will not be allowed to participate in school athletics unless the sensitivity training is completed, McGlohon said.

School officials would not comment on why the assistant coach and player were suspended.
