Nevada Schools on Lockdown as Police Search for Teen With Gun

Monday, October 02, 2006

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. —  A southern Nevada high school and a nearby elementary school were locked down Monday while police searched for a teenager who they said brought a gun to campus, authorities said.

No students were hurt and police said there was no initial indication the teen, who they said was not a student and was not allowed on campus, threatened anyone with the weapon, said Sean Walker, a North Las Vegas police spokesman.

The teen ran from the Mojave High School when he was confronted by campus police as students arrived for school, Walker said.

A .25 caliber handgun was found behind a church not far from and the high school and Elizondo Elementary School, Walker said. Both campuses were locked down while police searched nearby neighborhoods for the teen
