Minefield Fund-Raiser Nixed After Paul McCartney Backs Out

LONDON —  There's reportedly no party without Paul McCartney.

At least not for one British charity. British newspapers are reporting that a fund-raiser has been canceled by a group supported by McCartney and his estranged wife Heather Mills because the former Beatle wasn't attending.

McCartney announced in July that he wouldn't be at the gala to raise money for the Adopt-a-Minefield campaign, which Mills helped found. He said in a statement last month that he wouldn't be at the October event "given the current circumstances." He will instead be making a donation.

McCartney and Mills announced their separation in May after four years of marriage. They're now in the middle of a messy divorce.
