Officials: Afghan, NATO Forces Kill 17 Taliban

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan —  Afghan and NATO forces aided by airstrikes killed 17 Taliban in southern Afghanistan, police said Sunday.

Afghan police on Saturday killed three Taliban and wounded one in the mountains of Garmser district of Helmand province, said district police chief Ghulam Rasool.

Then with the aid of British troops and NATO air power, they killed another 14 Taliban and wounded six, also in Garmser, he said, citing local intelligence reports.

A NATO spokesman would not comment, saying the operation was ongoing.
