Elton John's Planned ABC Sitcom Hits Dead End

Wednesday, May 24, 2006

NEW YORK —  Elton John's planned sitcom has hit a dead end at ABC.

"Him & Us," which was on ABC's radar, wasn't included on the network's fall schedule, which was announced last week.

And it now appears to be a goner before it ever got off the ground.

The show, about a gay rock star and his entourage, was supposed to star Anthony Head, of British TV hit "Little Britain" and U.S. hit "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and former "Sex and the City" gal Kim Cattrall, who'd play the rock star's manager.

John wasn't going to appear in the show, but was slated to be one of its executive producers, along with his longtime lyricist, Bernie Taupin.

"The show will not go on," John's spokesman told the British press.

That's too bad, because had "Him & Us" gotten the green light, it would have competed with a TV show featuring another British rock icon — "Let's Rob Mick Jagger," an ABC sitcom that will feature intermittent appearances by Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.

Premiering this fall, "Let's Rob Mick Jagger" revolves around a janitor and his pals who plan to rob Jagger's home.

Jagger has agreed to appear in a few episodes.
