The word "bitches" will be heard for the first time on the Oscars on Sunday -- totally sanctioned.

The Motion Picture Academy and ABC, which is broadcasting the show, gave the go-ahead for best-song nominee "It's Hard Out There for a Pimp" to include the vulgarity when the song is performed on the show.

The song, from the film "Hustle & Flow," has already been through an extensive rewrite to substitute less offensive words for its profanity-laced lyrics. But "bitches" can stay in the chorus.

"As long as the Academy approves it, it's cool," said rapper Jordan "Juicy J" Houston, a member of Three 6 Mafia, which wrote the song for the film and will be performing it.

A spokesman for Gil Cates, the producer of the Oscars telecast, confirmed that the word was not one of the words changed by the nominated artists.
