NEW YORK —

The fashion world rocked into action Thursday night, kicking off the city's annual Fashion Week (search) with a blizzard of boldface names.

David Bowie, Destiny's Child, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Alicia Keyes, Tim McGraw, Shakira, Gwen Stefani, Joss Stone, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Rob Thomas headlined the Fashion Rocks concert at Radio City Music Hall Thursday night.

Music and style combined to light up the red-carpet event, which donated ticket proceeds to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

Destiny's Child reunited for the night as Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams sang some of their early tunes while wearing outfits designed by Beyonce's mother's label, House of Dereon.

Soulstress Keyes made one of the biggest entrances at the concert when she wowed the red carpet in a stunning tangerine satin Max Azaria gown.

Stefani also had fashion wags talking after she donned a white dress from her new label L.A.M.B., due to be unveiled on New York catwalks at the end of Fashion Week.

A record number of TV, movie and music stars — including flashbulb magnets like Lindsay Lohan, Courteney Cox, Ashley Judd, Jeremy Piven, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary J. Blige, Marcia Gay Harden, Renée Zellweger and "Desperate Housewives" hottie Jesse Metcalf — are expected to attend Fashion Week this year.

Bryant Park assumed its traditional role at the center of the fashion world Friday as 70 top designers started unveiling their spring/summer 2006 collections.
