Chalabi Convoy Attacked in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The convoy of Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Chalabi was attacked, killing one guard, officials in Baghdad said.
Ahmed Chalabi was not in the convoy at the time of the attack.
The attack took place in the town of Latifiya, a reknown Sunni stronghold, about 30 miles South of Baghdad.
Bodyguards exchanged gunfire, injuring three and killing one of Chalabi's bodyguards.
Also the U.S. military said Sunday that two separate roadside bomb attacks killed five U.S. soldiers in Baghdad on Saturday.
A patrol hit a roadside bomb in the southern Dora neighborhood in the first attack Saturday around 1:40 p.m., killing a soldier from Task Force Baghdad (search), a statement said. Two others were wounded in that incident.
Later that evening, around 11 p.m., four Task Force Baghdad soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb exploded in southwestern Baghdad.
The names of all the soldiers killed are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
In other violence, a car bomb exploded Sunday south of Baghdad (search), killing five civilians and wounding 10, including two policemen, police officials said.
The bomb targeted a police vehicle as it was passing on a main road near the town of Haswa, 30 miles south of Baghdad, said police Capt. Muthanna Khaled Ali (search). One police vehicle was damaged in the attack, he said.
