Eva Longoria Snubbed Again

Friday, July 15, 2005

"Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria (search) was snubbed in Thursday's Primetime Emmy nominations -- the second time she's been ignored for a major award honoring TV's hottest show.

Longoria, who plays sultry Gabrielle, was the only major "Housewife" not to get an Emmy nod as Best Actress in a Comedy.

It's a repeat of Longoria's travails last year, when she was the only "Desperate Housewives" (search) star not to receive a Golden Globe nomination.

Longoria's co-stars -- Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher -- all received Emmy nominations as "Housewives" earned 15 nods in all, tying "Will & Grace."

ABC's second big hit from last season, "Lost," garnered nods for co-stars Naveen Andrews and Terry O'Quinn (Supporting Actor).

Surprises included Showtime's little-watched drama, "Huff," which snared nominations for star Hank Azaria (Best Actor) and co-stars Blythe Danner and Oliver Platt.

"I was utterly shocked," Platt told The Post. "I can't see how this couldn't help our show. God knows we have our fans and we've done well with the critics ... but I wasn't taking anything for granted."

First-time nominee Ian McShane, who plays prickly barkeep Al Swearengen on HBO's profanity-laced "Deadwood," told The Post he was thrilled with his nomination (as Best Actor in a Drama).

"I had sort of forgotten about [the nominations] but my mother-in-law called me from Detroit when she heard it on the news," McShane, 62, said from London, where he's shooting a new Woody Allen movie.

"['Deadwood' creator] David Milch is an extraordinary writer and has created this world of Deadwood, and I'm happy to be one of the leading players," McShane said.

"I've had a long career -- I did my own [British] show, 'Lovejoy,' for many years -- but roles like this don't come around very often," McShane said of Swearengen.

HBO picked up a leading 93 nominations, followed by CBS (59), NBC (54), ABC (51) and FOX (49).
