British Make Arrest Linked to Iraq Attacks

Tuesday, June 21, 2005

MANCHESTER, England —  Police in northern England arrested a man Tuesday in connection with homicide bomb attacks against U.S.-led troops in Iraq.

Some 30 officers raided a house in Manchester at around 5 a.m. and arrested a 40-year-old man under Britain's anti-terrorism laws, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police (search) said.

The suspect is believed to have shared the house with another man who traveled to Iraq to take part in a homicide bombing that targeted coalition forces, the spokesman said.

No further details were available.

Britain has some 8,500 troops in Iraq, most in the southern city of Basra. Since the start of the war 88 Britain troops have been killed in Iraq.
