VIOLENCE CONTINUES: Thousands of Uzbeks trying to flee into Kyrgyzstan (search) following a day of massive protests burned a government building and attacked border guards.

CASUALTY COUNT: Witnesses to Friday's protest say more than 200 people were killed after government troops opened fire on the huge demonstration against economic conditions under the rule of President Islam Karimov (search).

BLAME: The U.S.-allied Uzbek leader blames the fighting on Islamic extremists. The violence was triggered by a jail break to free accused Islamic militants (search).
